Investment advisors have emerged as the largest institutional holders of spot Bitcoin ETFs, signaling growing confidence in digital assets among traditional financial professionals. At the same time, demand for Ether ETFs is rapidly expanding, indicating a broader appetite for crypto exposure beyond Bitcoin.

Over $10 Billion in Bitcoin ETFs Held by Advisors

According to recent 13F filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), investment advisors now control over $10.28 billion worth of spot Bitcoin ETFs, equal to approximately 124,753 BTC.

This represents nearly half of all institutional Bitcoin ETF assets, showing accelerating mainstream adoption among financial advisors.

Hedge funds follow closely, with $6.9 billion in holdings (83,934 BTC), while brokerages and holding companies round out the top three. These figures, highlighted by Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, underscore the dominance of advisors in crypto ETF investing.

Balchunas noted that advisors are “number one by a mile,” and predicted that institutional holdings could grow to 35%–40% as traditional finance deepens its exposure.

Rising Institutional Demand for Ether ETFs

While Bitcoin leads in institutional ETF exposure, Ether (ETH) is gaining ground. Investment advisors hold $582 million in Ether ETFs, representing 320,089 ETH. Hedge funds have accumulated an additional $244 million, or 134,469 ETH.

Combined, institutional investors now hold over $1.06 billion in Ether ETFs—totaling 587,348 ETH.

Though Ether’s footprint is currently smaller than Bitcoin’s, the consistent rise in allocations shows that institutions are diversifying their crypto strategies.

Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart noted that interest in Ether ETFs is steadily building, with expectations for continued growth as regulatory clarity improves.

Broader Implications for Crypto Adoption

The surge in ETF exposure by investment advisors reflects growing confidence in crypto as a legitimate asset class. As more wealth managers integrate Bitcoin and Ether into diversified portfolios, crypto is becoming an institutional staple rather than a speculative outlier.

This shift could unlock new levels of market maturity and liquidity, especially as regulators and asset managers continue to embrace structured crypto investment vehicles.

In summary, the rise of investment advisors as top holders of spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs underscores a pivotal shift in institutional crypto adoption—from speculative curiosity to strategic allocation.
