Binance co-founder’s edutech venture gains momentum with $GIGGLE support
Changpeng “CZ” Zhao’s Giggle Academy has attracted over $1.3 million in donations within just half a day of opening contributions, with a major boost coming from a newly launched memecoin called $GIGGLE. The initiative reflects growing interest in blending cryptocurrency with social impact projects, particularly in education.
$1.3M in Donations Backed by Memecoin
According to blockchain data, Giggle Academy’s donation address recorded more than 1,311 BNB, valued at over $1.3 million at the time of writing. A significant share of this came from Giggle Fund, which directs trading fees from the $GIGGLE memecoin into donations for the academy.
Giggle Academy confirmed that funds will support community building, creator incentives, ecosystem development, and product promotion. The project’s concept paper describes a model where educators contribute material, and the best-performing content receives rewards, allowing standout creators to “rise to the top.”
How Giggle Fund Works
The idea for memecoin donations emerged after an X user known as RUNE asked CZ if tokens could be used to support Giggle Academy. Inspired by past crypto philanthropy examples, RUNE launched Giggle Fund, ensuring that donations are routed in BNB rather than adding selling pressure on the token itself.
CZ acknowledged the effort on social media, noting that while memecoin donations are welcome, they are typically converted into more established cryptocurrencies. RUNE clarified, however, that Giggle Fund’s model is different, as it charges transaction fees in BNB and passes them directly to Giggle Academy.
Data from BscScan shows Giggle Fund has completed over 967 transactions, contributing to nearly 10,000 total transfers to the academy. Trading activity has also surged, with transaction counts up more than 470% in the past 24 hours and volume reaching $2.8 million, according to DEX analytics.
Free Education for Millions
Giggle Academy’s mission is to provide free K-12 education with a focus on both traditional subjects—such as math, reading, writing, and science—and modern skills including finance, blockchain, AI, and negotiation. Unlike conventional systems, the academy will avoid subjects like history and religion, citing “too much potential debate on a global platform.”
CZ has previously expressed ambitions to educate 100 million to 1 billion children worldwide, particularly in underserved communities. If early support through donations continues at this pace, Giggle Academy could become one of the largest crypto-backed education initiatives in the world.
