Fantasy sports giant calls Solana move an “upgrade,” not a replacement
Fantasy sports platform Sorare is shifting its blockchain base from Ethereum to Solana, a move CEO Nicolas Julia calls an “upgrade” aimed at scalability and user growth rather than a loss of confidence in Ethereum.
Julia emphasized that Solana’s performance and consumer focus make it the best fit for Sorare’s expanding ecosystem. “It’s not a replacement, it’s an upgrade,” he said, noting that Solana currently leads the fantasy sports blockchain sector in daily active users, developer activity, and total value locked.
The migration, which will move more than ten of Sorare’s sports games and their trading cards, is expected to be completed by the end of October.
Ethereum remains part of Sorare’s long-term strategy
Despite the transition, Julia reaffirmed that Ethereum remains central to Sorare’s plans. “We remain very bullish on it,” he said, explaining that the platform will continue to support Ethereum users through Base network integration and Ether (ETH) deposits.
Sorare, valued at $4.3 billion in 2021, has grown to five million users across football, basketball, and baseball fantasy leagues. The company’s digital trading cards, issued as NFTs, allow users to build virtual teams and compete in real-world performance-based tournaments.
Solana’s speed and stability attract major crypto projects
Sorare joins a growing list of projects—including 1inch and The Graph—that have migrated from Ethereum to Solana in search of lower fees and faster transactions. Julia dismissed concerns about Solana’s past network outages, saying his team is “well accustomed to managing blockchain imperfections” and has been reassured by Solana’s recent stability improvements.
“We’ve been more than reassured by the quality of Solana’s technology and the speed at which its ecosystem improves,” he said.
Looking ahead, Sorare plans to adopt a multichain approach by integrating LayerZero for cross-chain payments between Solana and Base. Julia said the team is also monitoring Aptos and Sui as emerging high-speed networks.
“Our mission is to build for scalability and user accessibility — across every viable ecosystem,” Julia concluded.
