Final committee report claims the crypto initiative was part of a wider network and urges lawmakers to examine Milei’s role
Argentina’s congressional inquiry into the controversial Libra cryptocurrency initiative has entered a new stage after legislators released their final findings, urging a formal review of whether President Javier Milei engaged in misconduct while promoting the project. The commission, active for three months, concluded that the actions surrounding Libra were far from isolated and may indicate broader political and financial coordination.
According to the document, investigators found that the president’s image and public influence had been used to promote multiple digital asset ventures, including KIP, a separate cryptocurrency he was associated with in late 2024.
The report underscores that these promotional efforts occurred while key figures linked to Libra maintained direct access to the president and government facilities.
The commission detailed 16 meetings between Milei and individuals directly involved in the Libra launch: Mauricio Novelli, Manuel Terrones Godoy, Hayden Davis, and Sergio Morales. Legislators stated the encounters were authorized by Karina Milei, the president’s sister, raising concerns about how official resources were used.

Investigators also highlighted that the president had shared Libra’s contract number publicly before the information was officially released, a move lawmakers believe significantly expanded public participation.
“Without the president’s visibility, the project would not have achieved the level of engagement it reached,” said another official familiar with the inquiry.
Why the Findings Matter
While Milei has denied any wrongdoing, the commission’s conclusions raise new questions about the extent of his involvement and whether political influence played a role in the project’s rapid growth. Lawmakers emphasized that they received little cooperation from judicial authorities or government officials, which they argue slowed the investigation.
What Could Come Next
The release of the final report may trigger deeper congressional scrutiny, potentially leading to formal proceedings or additional investigative actions. The Libra case now joins a growing list of controversies surrounding the administration, including allegations connected to the National Disability Agency and the president’s inner circle.
