The Avalanche Policy Coalition has announced the formation of a new advisory council aimed at shaping how cryptocurrency regulation develops across major global jurisdictions. The move comes as governments accelerate efforts to define legal frameworks for digital assets, intermediaries, and online access.
Advisory Council Priorities for 2026
The newly unveiled council will focus on three main policy areas in 2026: how digital tokens are classified under law, how intermediaries within blockchain ecosystems should be defined, and how access to the open internet can be protected. The initiative is intended to align policy efforts across the Avalanche ecosystem while engaging with broader global regulatory discussions.
The council is led by Ava Labs General Counsel Lee Schneider and includes figures from the Avalanche Foundation, Avalanche Treasury entities, and Avax One Technology, alongside international policy voices such as a member of the UK House of Lords. The group reflects the growing institutional structure surrounding Avalanche, a decentralized blockchain platform launched in 2020.
Push for Global Regulatory Alignment
The council’s launch coincides with increasing regulatory momentum worldwide. In the United States, lawmakers are advancing broader crypto legislation following recent stablecoin-focused laws, while regulators are revisiting market oversight frameworks. In Europe, implementation of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation is underway, and the UK is developing its own regime targeted for 2027. Japan continues to refine an already mature regulatory approach.
While regulatory systems do not need to be identical, coalition leaders emphasized the importance of shared principles across jurisdictions. Greater alignment, they argue, would reduce friction for blockchain networks and companies operating globally, supporting innovation while maintaining legal clarity.
