Changpeng Zhao, founder of Binance, has been ranked among the world’s richest individuals after Forbes estimated his net worth at around $110 billion. The estimate places Zhao roughly 17th on global wealth rankings, reflecting the rapid growth of the cryptocurrency industry and the dominant position of the exchange he created in 2017.
Binance Valuation Drives Zhao’s Wealth
Most of Zhao’s estimated fortune is linked to his ownership stake in Binance. The cryptocurrency exchange is widely valued at about $100 billion and remains one of the largest trading platforms in the digital asset market.
In 2024 and 2025, Binance reportedly generated between $16 billion and $17 billion in annual revenue. During the same period, the platform processed more than $30 trillion in trading volume, accounting for roughly 38% of global cryptocurrency trading activity. Despite stepping down as chief executive in 2023, Zhao’s wealth remains closely tied to the performance and valuation of the exchange.

Zhao Calls Global Rich Lists “Guess a Number” Estimates
Zhao responded to the reported figure by saying the estimate was “not accurate.” Writing on social media, he described global wealth rankings as “guess a number lists,” suggesting they rely heavily on approximations rather than verified financial disclosures.
He also noted that cryptocurrency valuations fluctuate significantly, pointing out that the broader market, including Bitcoin, remains well below its previous all-time highs, which makes calculating exact crypto-related wealth difficult.
Crypto Industry Figures Appear on Global Wealth Rankings
Other figures connected to the digital asset sector are also appearing in global wealth lists. Giancarlo Devasini, chief financial officer of Bitfinex and co-founder of Tether, is estimated to hold a fortune of about $89.3 billion. Both Zhao and Devasini represent a small group of individuals in the top global wealth rankings whose fortunes are largely built within the cryptocurrency industry.
