Strong earnings, high yields, and low volatility create rare opportunities for investors
The global investing landscape is entering what some analysts are calling an unprecedented phase of opportunity. Rick Rieder, BlackRock’s chief investment officer of global fixed income, described the present backdrop as the “best investment environment ever,” pointing to a combination of robust earnings, high bond yields, and subdued volatility.
Rieder emphasized that record levels of cash remain parked in money market funds, alongside strong corporate earnings and aggressive share buybacks, creating powerful support for equities. Despite elevated valuations among top technology stocks, he noted that fundamentals remain strong. “MAG-7 year-on-year growth is like 54%, which makes the sector hard to ignore,” Rieder explained.
The surge in buybacks is reducing stock supply, amplifying demand, and reinforcing bullish sentiment across global equity markets.
On the fixed-income side, Rieder highlighted that investors can still capture portfolio yields between 6.5% and 7%, a range he described as highly attractive given that core inflation has eased below 3%. He added that with the Federal Reserve likely to cut rates as early as September, yields remain compelling even before policy adjustments.
“You don’t often get income at this level with inflation moderating,” Rieder said, noting that many investors are underexposed to bonds compared to the opportunities currently available.
Volatility Remains Historically Low
Another key factor driving Rieder’s optimism is what he called “crazy low” volatility. Equity volatility, or “vol,” has dropped to levels around 9.5–10, making it cheaper for investors to hedge against downside risks. According to Rieder, this dynamic creates what he described as an “escape hatch” for market participants: investors can remain exposed to growth opportunities while protecting themselves at relatively low costs.
