New Feature Brings Ethereum-Level Security to Layer-2 Services
Eigen Labs has launched a major protocol upgrade that slashes the traditional scalability vs. security trade-off, enabling decentralized services to operate on layer-2 networks while retaining Ethereum-grade security.
Announced on Thursday, the multichain verification feature now allows Actively Validated Services (AVS) to run across multiple chains. The feature debuted on Base Sepolia Testnet, with mainnet support planned for Q3 2025.
âThis is a critical milestone in our mission to scale verifiable infrastructure everywhere,â said Eigen Labs CEO Sreeram Kannan in a statement .
Scaling Without Sacrificing Security
Historically, decentralized apps and infrastructure providers have faced a difficult decision: prioritize scalability via faster, cheaper L2 networks or stick with Ethereumâs robust security. With Eigenlayerâs new Multi-Chain Verification, they no longer have to choose.
âUntil now, AVS had to choose between leveraging Ethereumâs security or scaling to faster, cheaper environments. With Multi-Chain Verification, they donât have to make a choice,â Kannan explained.
This system enables validator data, including stake weights, operator configs, and slashing conditions, to sync across all supported chains â preserving EigenLayerâs pooled security even beyond Ethereum mainnet.
Why Base Network Was First
According to Kannan, Base was selected as the initial deployment partner due to its active builder ecosystem and alignment with Eigenlayerâs goals. However, the protocol intends to expand to more L2 chains before full mainnet rollout later this year.
AVS, EigenCloud, and the Multichain Vision
The upgrade also supports EigenCloud, the platformâs initiative to make verifiable infrastructure universally accessible across chains. As more developers build decentralized services beyond Ethereum, Eigenlayer aims to be the security layer that follows â bringing slashing protection, trust minimization, and economic guarantees with it.
Industry-Wide Push for Infrastructure Innovation
Eigenlayerâs upgrade comes amid a broader industry trend of improving blockchain infrastructure. On the same day, Build on Bitcoin implemented ZK fraud proofs within its optimistic rollup, advancing its status on the L2Beat decentralization tracker.
With multichain verification, Eigenlayer is reshaping how decentralized infrastructure scales â offering security without compromise. The move not only accelerates Eigenlayerâs roadmap but signals a maturing ecosystem ready for truly multichain decentralized applications.
