Two deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) have admitted to abusing their official powers to assist a high-profile crypto criminal — dubbed “The Godfather” — in a wide-ranging extortion scheme. The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed that the deputies used their law enforcement roles to support Adam Iza, a crypto platform operator also known as Ahmed Faiq, who is now behind bars.
Crypto Extortion and Off-Duty Abuse
David Anthony Rodriguez and Christopher Michael Cadman admitted to federal charges including conspiracy against rights. Cadman also pleaded guilty to filing a false tax return. While moonlighting as private security, both officers worked directly for Iza, who operated the now-defunct crypto platform Zort.
According to court records, the deputies used their law enforcement access and credentials to illegally obtain search warrants, access police databases, and threaten victims, all to benefit Iza’s personal and business interests.
Armed Threats and Unlawful Arrests
In one shocking case, Cadman and another deputy held a victim at gunpoint inside Iza’s Bel Air mansion. Shortly after, the victim transferred $25,000 directly to Iza’s account under duress. Cadman later helped organize that same victim’s arrest through a staged traffic stop.
Prosecutors allege Cadman failed to report at least $40,500 in illegal income, further compounding his legal troubles. He faces up to 13 years in prison.
Misuse of Search Warrants and Surveillance
Rodriguez admitted to falsifying information to obtain a search warrant, claiming it was tied to a robbery investigation. In reality, it was used to track a victim’s phone location, which he then shared with another LASD deputy, Eric Chase Saavedra — also hired by Iza. This data was weaponized to harass and intimidate the victim.
Rodriguez could face up to 10 years in prison, with sentencing set for November 10.
Crypto Mogul Paid $280,000 Monthly to Deputies
Iza, who pleaded guilty to wire fraud, tax evasion, and conspiracy against rights, bragged about paying up to $280,000 per month to deputies. He referred to them as “pawns” in messages uncovered by the FBI.
Court documents also detail how Iza’s former girlfriend, Iris Ramaya Au, helped launder millions by setting up shell companies and using the illicit funds to finance luxury properties, vehicles, and jewelry.
Sentencing Ahead
- Iza: Faces up to 35 years, sentencing on December 15
- Saavedra: Faces up to 13 years, free on $50,000 bond
- Cadman & Rodriguez: Await federal court proceedings
This case underscores growing concerns about how crypto wealth is fueling corruption in unexpected sectors — including law enforcement.
