Iran confirmed on Monday that Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy Commander Alireza Tangsiri was killed in a US-Israeli strike, according to an official statement cited by Fars news agency. Iranian authorities also described recent US demands as “excessive” and “illogical,” while denying participation in any Pakistan-mediated negotiations.
The confirmation followed earlier statements from Israeli officials. On Thursday, Israel’s defense minister said Tangsiri was killed in an airstrike in the southern city of Bandar Abbas along with other senior IRGC Navy command officials. Local media reports noted that Tangsiri had been linked to operations involving the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
US Central Command Confirms Strike Details
On the same day, US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the death of Tangsiri, reinforcing reports of the coordinated strike. The incident marks a significant escalation in regional tensions, given the commander’s role in naval operations near key global shipping routes.
