X to Launch Smart Cashtags for In-App Crypto and Stock Trading

Social media platform X is preparing to introduce “Smart Cashtags,” a feature that will allow users to trade cryptocurrencies and stocks directly from their timelines. The rollout is expected within the next few weeks, marking a significant step in the company’s push toward integrating financial services into its ecosystem.

Smart Cashtags to Enable Real-Time Crypto and Equity Trading

The upcoming tool expands on the platform’s existing cashtag system, where users add a dollar sign before a ticker symbol to generate clickable links. With Smart Cashtags, posts will support precise asset identification, including specific smart contract addresses. Users will be able to view live price charts and execute buy or sell orders without leaving the timeline.

According to leadership, the underlying API will support near real-time data for on-chain assets, potentially including smaller-cap tokens alongside traditional equities.

X Expands Financial Services With X Money Initiative

Smart Cashtags align with broader plans tied to X Money, a digital wallet and payments initiative announced in partnership with Visa. Former CEO Linda Yaccarino previously confirmed ambitions to integrate investing tools into the app.

As part of the rollout, executives have also pledged stricter enforcement against spam, bots and crypto-related manipulation, signaling tighter platform controls as trading capabilities expand.
