Platform targets a base of 17 million crypto traders through key local acquisitions
Robinhood is preparing to enter Indonesia as part of a broader push into Southeast Asia’s rapidly expanding digital asset landscape. The company has reached agreements to acquire two local fintech firms, positioning itself to serve one of the region’s most active trading populations.
The platform confirmed it will acquire Buana Capital, an Indonesian brokerage, and PT Pedagang Aset Kripto, a licensed digital financial asset trader. These moves enable Robinhood to build an immediate regulatory foothold in a market that boasts over 19 million capital market investors and more than 17 million cryptocurrency traders. The company described Indonesia as one of the fastest-growing environments for both equity and digital asset trading.
Robinhood noted that acquiring an established brokerage provides built-in compliance and local infrastructure, while the digital asset license enables quicker access to launching crypto services. “Indonesia represents a fast-growing market for trading,” said Patrick Chan, Robinhood’s head of Asia, adding that the expansion aligns with the company’s mission to broaden financial access.
The firm plans to continue serving existing Buana Capital clients with domestic financial products while eventually introducing brokerage access to U.S. equities, cryptocurrencies, and additional investment options. Robinhood expects the transaction to close in the first half of 2026 and did not disclose financial terms.
Indonesia ranks seventh globally for crypto adoption and leads Southeast Asia, according to Chainalysis. Government data shows the nation’s crypto transaction value surpassed 650 trillion rupiah in 2024, more than tripling year over year—highlighting the market’s accelerating momentum.
Robinhood’s global expansion has intensified over the past year, including launches in Europe and the U.K. The company is also growing in the prediction-market sector, calling it one of its fastest-rising revenue segments.
