Rainbow Six Siege Servers Halted Following Hack That Distributed $13.3 Million in Credits Per Player
Ubisoft temporarily suspended live services for Rainbow Six Siege after a large-scale security breach allowed hackers to inject 2 billion in-game credits into every player account, triggering an emergency response. The incident forced the company to halt servers, disable the in-game marketplace, and begin a sweeping rollback to restore account integrity.
The exploit came to light on December 27, when players reported logging in to find billions of R6 credits, along with rare skins, weapons, and cosmetic items, suddenly added to their inventories. Players also shared evidence suggesting hackers had compromised core online systems, including in-game messaging and moderation tools.
Based on Ubisoft’s pricing, where 15,000 R6 credits cost $99.99, the injected amount equated to roughly $13.33 million worth of credits per account, underscoring the scale of the breach.
In response, Ubisoft took the unprecedented step of shutting down Rainbow Six Siege servers entirely. The development team confirmed that a rollback targeting credits issued after 11:00 AM UTC on December 27 was underway. According to official updates, the process includes extensive quality control testing to ensure accounts return to a stable and fair state.
Importantly, Ubisoft stated that players will not face bans, even if they spent the illicitly granted credits before the shutdown.
The game has since entered a soft relaunch phase, with access limited to a small group of players while live testing continues. Further updates on the full relaunch and rollback completion are expected.
With over 34,000 daily active players in December, Rainbow Six Siege remains a flagship title, making the incident one of the most disruptive security events in Ubisoft’s recent history.
