A large batch of bitcoin options contracts expired Friday, clearing roughly 81,700 contracts valued at $6.4 billion, following the cryptocurrency’s sharp climb from around $62,000 toward $80,000 over the past week.

Expiry Comes After Major Price Swing
Much of the trading activity behind these contracts was set up before bitcoin’s rapid rise, meaning many bets were positioned around lower price levels. As the rally progressed, price action pushed into zones where large clusters of options had been placed near $75,000 and $80,000, well above the level where the largest number of contracts would have expired worthless.
ETF Inflows Continue to Support the Market
Alongside the options expiry, spot bitcoin exchange traded funds recorded steady daily inflows, marking nine consecutive days of investor buying. Spot Ethereum funds saw a similar streak, with comparable inflow amounts on the same day.

What Comes Next for Traders
With the expired contracts now cleared from the market, analysts say the next wave of options positioning will offer a clearer picture of how traders are betting following bitcoin’s move toward $80,000, rather than reflecting outdated expectations from before the rally.
