New Architecture Enables Specialized Lending Markets

The rollout brings Aave V4’s Hub & Spoke design to Avalanche, allowing individual lending markets to run their own collateral rules and risk settings while still drawing on shared liquidity across the broader protocol. Aave said one of the first markets planned for Avalanche will let users borrow against tokenized assets.

The structure is built to support a wider range of collateral types than earlier versions, with future markets potentially covering tokenized US Treasurys, money market funds, private credit and corporate bonds, each carrying its own risk parameters.

Aave Remains Largest Lending Protocol by TVL

According to DeFiLlama data, Aave holds close to $14 billion in total value locked across 23 blockchains, making it the largest decentralized lending protocol in the space.

Part of a Broader Tokenized Collateral Push

The launch fits into a wider trend of institutions building infrastructure around tokenized collateral. Franklin Templeton partnered with Binance earlier this year to let institutions use tokenized money market fund shares as off-exchange collateral, while Nasdaq is integrating its collateral platform with Talos to streamline institutional digital asset workflows.

DTCC has also said it plans to use Chainlink technology to support real-time tokenized collateral movement and settlement. Separately, Grove announced a $500 million warehouse lending facility with Galaxy Digital this week for institutional crypto-backed loans. Tokenized real-world assets on public blockchains have grown to more than $34 billion, up from about $12.8 billion a year ago, according to RWA.xyz.
