Animoca Chairman Warns Crypto Traders Against Relying on AI Trading Agents

Animoca Brands chairman Yat Siu says crypto traders can use AI agents to monitor markets nonstop, but users risk building their routines around a service they do not control. Speaking at Token2049 Singapore, he said an autonomous agent keeps hunting for new information and flags developments a user might miss, unlike a chatbot that only answers when asked.

Why Specialized Agents Work Better

Siu said his own agent grew so focused on crypto that it treated unrelated questions as crypto questions. His fix is to run several specialized agents instead of one. He also noted that a thousand people asking AI about the same trade could get roughly the same answer, and the Bank of England warned in April 2025 that widespread use of similar models could amplify market shocks.

Wallets and Tools for AI Agents

Coinbase launched Agentic Wallets in February, letting agents spend and trade within user set limits, while Binance introduced AI Agent Skills in March for live market data and spot order management.

Privacy Risks and Losing Access

Siu advises treating an AI assistant like a third party adviser and sharing only what it needs, such as leaving out income or close contacts. Since the company running the service controls access, a suspension could halt everything at once, so he says users should have the right to download their data and move it to another agent.
