Apple Overtakes Nvidia to Become World’s Most Valuable Company
Apple reclaimed its position as the world's most valuable company on Friday, surpassing Nvidia for the first time since April of last year. Apple's market valuation reached approximately $4.88 trillion, edging past Nvidia's roughly $4.86 trillion following a decline in the chipmaker's shares. The shift reflects a broader reassessment among investors about which companies stand to benefit most from continued AI growth.

Apple reclaimed its position as the world’s most valuable company on Friday, surpassing Nvidia for the first time since April of last year. Apple’s market valuation reached approximately $4.88 trillion, edging past Nvidia’s roughly $4.86 trillion following a decline in the chipmaker’s shares. The shift reflects a broader reassessment among investors about which companies stand to benefit most from continued AI growth.
Investors Reward Apple’s Different AI Approach
Unlike companies heavily investing in AI model development, Apple has taken a different path, focusing on integrating AI into its devices, services and broader ecosystem. Analysts say this positions the company well to generate steady revenue through hardware upgrades and service offerings, rather than relying on speculative bets tied to AI infrastructure spending. The milestone comes as Apple recently rolled out a significant update to its voice assistant, aiming to close the gap with competitors, while some analysts point to the vast amount of personal data stored on iPhones as a potential long-term advantage, provided the company can responsibly put that data to use.

Nvidia Remains a Major AI Beneficiary Despite Slip
Nvidia became the first company to surpass a $5 trillion valuation last October, and its graphics processors remain central to the broader AI computing boom. Analysts note that losing the top spot doesn’t necessarily indicate a lasting shift in the companies’ relative standing, and Nvidia could reclaim its position if investor sentiment changes again.

AI Enthusiasm Spreads to Other Chip Makers
The rally in AI-related stocks has also lifted memory chip manufacturers, with one major producer crossing a trillion-dollar valuation earlier this year. A South Korean chipmaker also began trading on the Nasdaq this month, adding further competition for investor attention. Despite a recent pullback in semiconductor stocks broadly, the sector has still outperformed Nvidia individually so far this year.
