Australia Suspends Cryptolink’s Bitcoin ATMs Over Compliance Failures

Australia's financial intelligence agency has suspended Cryptolink's registration for three months, halting operations across its network of Bitcoin ATMs. The regulator said the company failed to meet basic reporting requirements, particularly threshold transaction reports, and did not respond to requests for information. Officials cited ongoing concerns about the operator's ability to manage high-risk transactions through its machines.

Australia’s financial intelligence agency has suspended Cryptolink’s registration for three months, halting operations across its network of Bitcoin ATMs. The regulator said the company failed to meet basic reporting requirements, particularly threshold transaction reports, and did not respond to requests for information. Officials cited ongoing concerns about the operator’s ability to manage high-risk transactions through its machines.

Part of a Broader Crackdown

This latest action follows an enforceable agreement Cryptolink entered into with regulators last October after an earlier investigation found late transaction reporting and weaknesses in the company’s risk assessments. The operator was also fined more than $56,000 earlier, which it paid. Australia has been tightening oversight of crypto ATMs since late 2024, as the country holds the largest number of such machines in the Asia-Pacific region.

Network Remains Offline During Suspension

Cryptolink operates 96 Bitcoin ATMs across Australia, concentrated in major cities including Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. During the three-month suspension, none of these machines will be permitted to operate.
