Balaji Srinivasan’s Network School Buys Farcaster and Starts Banning Users

Network School, the project led by Balaji Srinivasan, has bought the social app Farcaster from Neynar and renamed it Network State Protocol. It is the second time this year the platform has changed owners. Within hours of the news, a number of users said their accounts had been switched to view only mode because of older posts that broke the new rules. Former Eigen Labs ecosystem lead Kunal Gandhi called the move at odds with the spirit of decentralized social media.

Singapore of Social Media Plan

Cointelegraph reported first, Srinivasan says he wants a polite, tech optimistic community run under a shared code of conduct. He compared the cleanup to Bukele’s crackdown in El Salvador, saying only repeat offenders were removed. Humans and AI reviewed millions of posts, and banned users can appeal.

How the Network Code and Social Contract Work

Members must accept a contract that lets the core team set the rules. Violations are ranked as felonies, misdemeanors or infractions, and the rules cover past posts too. An AI model will enforce them, with some human judgment. Users who refuse keep their keys, funds, followers and history, and can move to another app. Network School also aims to grow the community into real world meetups and startup cities, despite losing its Malaysian business licence earlier this year and now planning a Kazakhstan campus.
