Binance Pay Lets Visitors Spend USDT at PayPay Merchants in Japan
Binance Pay will let eligible overseas visitors spend USDT at most PayPay supported merchants across Japan starting Wednesday, marking the first crypto payment service to gain this access.

Binance Pay will let eligible overseas visitors spend USDT at most PayPay supported merchants across Japan starting Wednesday, marking the first crypto payment service to gain this access.
How the Binance Pay and PayPay Integration Works
The service runs through HIVEX, a payment interoperability framework that connects overseas QR payment services to PayPay merchants. Merchants continue to receive settlement in yen and do not need to opt in separately, according to Binance. PayPay is accepted at millions of locations across Japan, including major chains, smaller retailers, vending machines, taxis and public transportation. It already supports nine other overseas payment services through HIVEX, mostly from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Japan’s Tourism Numbers and Timing
The rollout comes as Japan continues to draw large numbers of international visitors. The country welcomed a record 42.7 million visitors in 2025, ranking ninth worldwide and first in Asia based on 2024 data. More recently, Japan recorded 3.1 million visitor arrivals in August, down 9.6% from a year earlier, bringing the total for the first eight months of 2026 to 27.6 million, a 2.7% decline from the same period last year.
