Bitcoin Approaches Golden Cross as USDT Dominance Signals Shift Toward Risk
Bitcoin is closing in on a golden cross, a widely watched technical pattern where its 50-day moving average rises above its 200-day average, often signaling a shift toward a longer term bullish trend. While the signal is considered one of the oldest indicators in financial markets, it has a mixed track record when it comes to predicting sustained rallies, since moving averages tend to lag price movement rather than lead it.

A History of Inconsistent Results
Since 2012, Bitcoin has formed this exact pattern twelve separate times. Only three of those instances led to major, long-lasting gains, including a sharp rally in 2012 and another in 2020 that eventually pushed Bitcoin toward record highs. Several other crosses failed quickly, reversing within months due to an opposing bearish pattern before meaningful gains could even be measured. On average, crosses that lasted at least three months delivered notable short-term gains, but very few held up for a full year.
USDT Dominance Adds Another Layer to the Outlook
Alongside the golden cross, another market indicator is drawing attention: USDT dominance, which tracks the stablecoin’s share of the total crypto market. This measure is approaching its own bearish crossover, historically associated with capital shifting away from stablecoins and into higher-risk assets like Bitcoin. Analysts note that while this shift often aligns with rising crypto prices, it can also occur simply because risk assets are rallying faster than stablecoin supply is growing.

Together, these two signals point toward strengthening momentum in Bitcoin’s price action, even as their long-term reliability remains uncertain.
