A group of Bitcoin advocates has introduced a new open source tool aimed at tackling misinformation surrounding Bitcoin’s environmental impact and broader role in the financial system. The initiative, called the Bitcoin Evidence Base, compiles peer-reviewed research to provide fast, credible responses to common criticisms.

AI Tool Uses Peer-Reviewed Studies to Address Bitcoin Misconceptions

Developed by Bitcoin Beyond 66, the platform draws on more than 22 academic papers, along with data from institutions such as the University of Cambridge and regional energy sources like ERCOT. It is designed to help users quickly respond to claims about Bitcoin’s energy use, mining practices and environmental footprint.

The tool generates structured replies based on user-submitted text or links, making it easier to counter misleading narratives on social media without requiring deep research.

Bitcoin’s environmental impact has long been criticized by policymakers and organizations, including voices within the United Nations. However, newer research cited by the platform suggests that over 52% of Bitcoin mining now relies on renewable energy sources, challenging earlier assumptions.

Strategy Focuses on Evidence and Constructive Dialogue

The system also incorporates communication strategies promoted by Daniel Batten, encouraging users to respond with balanced, evidence-based explanations rather than confrontational arguments. It offers multiple response tones, helping users engage more effectively while reducing misinformation across digital platforms.
