Tensions erupted at the United Nations during a public hearing focused on children and armed conflict after Israel’s ambassador Danny Danon openly confronted senior UN officials over reports accusing Israel of violations.

The heated exchange took place during an event marking the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. Danon demanded the resignation of Pramila Patten, the UN secretary-general’s special representative, accusing her of bias after her report added Israel to a blacklist linked to alleged abuses for the first time.

UN Officials Defend Evidence in Reports

Vanessa Frazier, the UN representative for children and armed conflict, interrupted the meeting and defended the findings, saying the reports were based on verified evidence. Danon responded angrily, telling her to remain silent and criticizing what he called “shameful” reporting against Israel.

The latest UN report warned that Israeli settler groups could also face future blacklisting over alleged violations against Palestinian children. Both Israel and Hamas currently appear in the UN’s blacklist reports connected to conflict-related abuses.
