Bitcoin traded just above $78,400 on Thursday, down about 1% over 24 hours, while most other major cryptocurrencies fell harder.

Dogecoin posted the steepest decline at over 5%, followed by BNB and XRP, down roughly 4% and 3% respectively. Solana, Hyperliquid’s HYPE and Ether each lost between 1% and 3%, while Tron was the only notable gainer.

Golden Cross Signal Draws Historical Comparisons
Bitcoin’s 50-day moving average crossed above its 200-day average earlier this week, a technical pattern some analysts believe carries more weight this time given it follows an extended bull run rather than emerging from a market correction. Analysts pointed to a similar pattern in 2019 that preceded a sharp rally within a matter of months, though they noted earlier crossovers in 2024 and 2025 failed to produce similar results.

Oil Prices and Bond Yields Weigh on Broader Markets
Brent crude climbed toward $102 a barrel after Iran signaled readiness for a more intense conflict, pushing the 10-year Treasury yield near its highest level since late 2023. Asian and US equities both moved lower, while currency markets saw renewed attention on the yen and Canadian dollar amid ongoing trade tensions. Friday’s inflation report is expected to be the next major catalyst for rate expectations.
