Bitcoin Retreats After Golden Cross Signal Follows Familiar Pattern
Bitcoin formed a golden cross earlier this week, a technical signal that occurs when the 50-day moving average rises above the 200 day moving average and is typically seen as a bullish indicator. However, historical patterns suggest the signal often arrives after most of the price gains have already taken place, followed by a pullback.

This latest instance follows that same trend. Bitcoin rose sharply from $62,000 to $82,000 before the golden cross formed at the start of the week. Since then, the price has declined to around $77,000.
History Shows Repeated Pattern of Post-Signal Declines
This is not the first time the golden cross has failed to deliver expected gains. In 2021, bitcoin rallied from $35,000 to roughly $52,000 before forming a golden cross, only to fall back to around $40,000 afterward. A similar pattern occurred in early 2023, when bitcoin climbed from $16,000 to $23,000 ahead of a February golden cross, before retreating to around $20,000 the following month.
The trend repeated again in October 2024, with bitcoin advancing from $54,000 to $70,000 before slipping to $67,000 after the crossover. Most recently, in 2025, bitcoin surged from $76,000 to approximately $110,000 before the signal appeared, then pulled back to around $100,000 afterward.
