Bitcoin Supply Squeeze Deepens as Long-Term Holders Reach 84% Control

Bitcoin's rebound from $58,000 to $64,000 following a downturn in June has drawn fresh attention to a shift building beneath the surface: long-term holders now control roughly 84% of all circulating Bitcoin. That leaves short term holders with just 16% of supply, the lowest share recorded since 2016.

Long-Term Conviction Growing

Long-term investors now hold about 5.2 times more Bitcoin than short term traders. The pattern as a sign that investors are choosing to hold through volatility rather than sell, which reduces the amount of Bitcoin actively available for trading and tightens overall market supply.

What It Could Mean for Price

A shrinking pool of liquid supply has historically preceded periods of price appreciation, since even modest new demand can move the market more sharply when fewer coins are available. At the same time, analysts caution that this same concentration carries risk, since any shift in sentiment among long term holders could release a large amount of supply back into the market quickly.

Echoes of 2016

The last time short-term holder supply was that low, Bitcoin was trading under $1,000, just before entering the run-up that took it toward $20,000 by 2017. Analysts note the current setup shares some similarities with that period, though they stress it’s not a guarantee of similar results.
