Bithumb Probes an Internal System Hack as Cyberattacks Spread Across Korean Finance

South Korea's Bithumb is working out how far an intrusion reached after attackers got into the mobile platform its staff use to message each other and share work information. The exchange spotted the problem on Tuesday and informed both the Korea Internet & Security Agency and the Personal Information Protection Commission the same day. Its team is still checking whether any member data was exposed, and it promised an official statement on Wednesday morning.

Are Customer Crypto Assets at Risk?

Bithumb says its internal work network is kept apart from the systems that handle virtual asset trading, so customer holdings cannot be reached through this incident. That claim has not been independently verified, and the question of leaked member details remains open until the investigation finishes.

Cyberattacks on South Korean Financial Firms Keep Growing

The Financial Supervisory Authority’s governor, Lee Chan-jin, said on Wednesday that 16 financial companies in the country had been hit as of October 14. Daishin Securities reported that personal and credit details of 38,490 customers were leaked. Mirae Asset Global Investments said it blocked unusual outside access to some web systems and is investigating, adding that investor information was not affected.
