Chelsea FC Signs Stablecoin Sponsorship Deal With Circle Following UK Regulator’s Warning
Chelsea Football Club has partnered with Circle, the company behind the USDC stablecoin, in a jersey sponsorship deal that arrives just months after the UK's financial regulator warned Premier League clubs about risky sponsorship arrangements with unauthorized financial firms.

Chelsea Football Club has partnered with Circle, the company behind the USDC stablecoin, in a jersey sponsorship deal that arrives just months after the UK’s financial regulator warned Premier League clubs about risky sponsorship arrangements with unauthorized financial firms.
USDC Branding Set To Appear On Chelsea Jerseys
Circle confirmed that its name and the USDC stablecoin will be featured on Chelsea player jerseys throughout the upcoming 2026/2027 season. The announcement comes roughly three months after the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority sent warning letters to several Premier League clubs, cautioning against sponsorship deals involving unauthorized crypto and financial companies targeting football fans.

Circle Highlights UK Regulatory Status
While the warning letters raised concerns about compliance with UK financial services rules, Circle’s UK division has held regulatory authorization to provide certain financial services in the country since 2018. Stablecoins such as USDC remain legal to use within the UK, even as regulators continue working toward a more comprehensive framework for digital assets, with new enforcement standards expected to take effect in late 2027.
Company Clarifies Stablecoin’s Regulatory Framework
Circle noted that USDC is issued through certain regulated affiliates but is not issued or regulated specifically under UK law. The regulator declined to comment on the partnership when contacted, and Circle did not immediately respond to further requests for comment.
Deal Reflects Growing Crypto Presence In Football Sponsorships
The partnership highlights the increasing overlap between digital asset companies and major sports sponsorships, even as regulators across multiple regions continue examining how such deals intersect with existing financial oversight rules.
