China has successfully flown its first tonne class civilian drone capable of staying airborne for 24 hours at maximum payload, marking a milestone for the country’s unmanned aircraft industry.
Multi-Purpose Design for Civil Use
The TP200, developed by Yitong UAV System, completed its maiden flight Sunday and is built to airworthiness standards for civilian applications. With a range of 3,000 kilometers, the drone is designed for tasks including maritime patrols, island resupply missions, land surveying, and emergency deliveries to remote areas. Its modular system also allows configuration for drought monitoring, wildfire response, and ecological mapping.
Technical Specifications
The aircraft has a service ceiling of about 7,600 meters and a top cruise speed of 200 km/h, with the ability to take off and land on unpaved runways within just 300 meters. The entire supply chain, including carbon fiber materials and ground stations, is domestically produced.
Comparison to Military Drones
The TP200’s endurance falls between China’s military Wing Loong-2 and Wing Loong-3 drones. Company representatives said China may need over 8,000 large fixed-wing unmanned transport aircraft over the next decade as the low-altitude economy expands.
