Coinbase has filed a notice registration form with the Securities and Exchange Commission as it seeks approval to list equity perpetual contracts, according to the company’s Chief Policy Officer. The exchange highlighted strong international demand for these products, expressing optimism about creating a regulated path for US investors to access similar offerings domestically.

Beyond SEC approval, Coinbase would also need sign off from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission before launching the product in the US market. The company already offers similar perpetual contracts internationally, allowing users outside the country to trade based on price movements of major US stocks without owning the underlying shares.
Growing Momentum for Crypto-Style Perpetual Trading
Perpetual futures, which have no expiration date, have traditionally been popular on offshore trading platforms operating outside US regulatory oversight. Earlier this year, US regulators began allowing Bitcoin-based perpetual contracts to be listed domestically, marking a shift toward bringing this type of trading under regulatory supervision.
The broader push toward regulated perpetual trading has also drawn attention to other major platforms in the space, with reports indicating ongoing discussions between a leading crypto derivatives platform and a major US exchange group about potential US market entry.
