Coinbase Launches Tokenized Stocks on Base Blockchain, Starting With Apple and Nvidia

Coinbase has introduced tokenized versions of U.S. stocks on its Base blockchain, joining exchanges like Kraken and Binance in bringing traditional equities onto crypto networks. The initial rollout includes tokenized shares of Apple, Nvidia, Meta and Alphabet, available to eligible investors outside the United States. These tokens are backed 1:1 by shares held with regulated broker Alpaca and issued under Abu Dhabi Global Market regulation.

How the Tokenized Shares Work

Each token represents a direct claim on the underlying stock, with dividends and stock splits reflected automatically. Once created, tokens can move freely between wallets without restrictions and can be traded continuously on supported platforms, including decentralized exchange Aerodrome. Investors can also use the tokens within decentralized finance applications, potentially allowing borrowing against their holdings.

Part of a Bigger Tokenization Trend

The move comes as the tokenization of real-world assets accelerates across the financial industry, with billions already shifted onchain in Treasuries and private credit. Analysts expect tokenized securities to grow into a multi-trillion-dollar market by the end of the decade.
