CZ Predicts Bitcoin Could Overtake Gold’s Dominance in Next Bull Cycle

Binance co founder Changpeng "CZ" Zhao told attendees at a major Bitcoin conference in Hong Kong that Bitcoin could eventually surpass gold in overall market importance during the next major bull run. Zhao pointed out that gold's total market value remains roughly ten times larger than Bitcoin's today, but argued that closing this gap reflects a deeper shift in how investors think about reserve assets rather than just price movement.

Zhao pointed out that gold’s total market value remains roughly ten times larger than Bitcoin’s today, but argued that closing this gap reflects a deeper shift in how investors think about reserve assets rather than just price movement.

Why the Shift Won’t Happen Overnight

Zhao noted that major countries have spent decades building valuation systems, reserve strategies, and trading infrastructure around gold, meaning any transition toward digital assets will take time. Still, he predicted that sovereign reserve allocations will eventually lean more heavily toward crypto, with Bitcoin representing more than half of strategic digital asset holdings, alongside other major tokens.

Comments Come Amid a Strong Market Rally

Zhao’s remarks followed a sharp rebound in Bitcoin’s price, which climbed more than 25% over the past week while gold also pushed past $4,600 an ounce. Bitcoin was trading around $79,700 at the time of his comments, up roughly 1.5% over the previous day.

AI and Crypto Convergence Coming Through Stablecoins

Zhao also weighed in on how artificial intelligence might merge with the crypto industry, predicting the integration will likely start with stablecoins before expanding further. He suggested AI powered trading tools will develop faster than AI-driven payment systems, since trading demands rapid analysis of fast-moving information, something AI is particularly well suited to accelerate.
