DogeOS Opens Public Testnet, Bringing Ethereum-Style Smart Contracts to Dogecoin
DogeOS went live with its public testnet on Wednesday. It is a zero-knowledge rollup that runs EVM compatible smart contracts and settles to Dogecoin, with DOGE used to pay transaction fees. The Dogecoin base layer itself stays unchanged. Planned uses include trading, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets and games.

How DogeOS Is Secured
For now, the network relies on a trusted execution environment, validators and a permissioned sequencer. Dogecoin cannot verify the ZK proofs itself. Bridge updates need a valid proof plus signatures from most validators and a TEE signer. CEO Jordan Jefferson said the team is focused on testing and will announce a mainnet timeline after further milestones.
Dogecoin Core ZK Upgrade Proposal
The team behind the MyDoge wallet raised $6.9 million in a round led by Polychain Capital in May 2025. In July 2025 it proposed a Dogecoin Core upgrade that would let miners verify proofs directly. That upgrade has not been implemented.
Beyond Elon Musk
Jefferson has said the goal is to grow Dogecoin beyond its long dependence on Elon Musk. Timothy Stebbing of the Dogecoin Foundation called DogeOS a possible springboard for the next 100 startups.
DOGE trades near $0.094, down 60% over the past year.
