DOJ Announces Seizure of $560,000 in Crypto Tied to Hamas Fundraising Network

The US Department of Justice this week confirmed the seizure of more than half a million dollars in crypto donations linked to Hamas, along with the takeover of online infrastructure the group allegedly used to raise funds and recruit new supporters. Federal officials say the FBI took control of domains and servers connected to Hamas’ online presence, allowing investigators to intercept future crypto donations intended for the organization.

A senior federal prosecutor overseeing the case described the operation as a major setback for the group’s ability to fund its activities, warning that its online networks and cryptocurrency infrastructure are not secure from law enforcement action.

How Investigators Traced the Funds

According to court documents, investigators first identified an encrypted group chat claiming ties to Hamas that directed supporters to a fundraising website using a rotating set of cryptocurrency donation addresses. Using information gathered from multiple human sources across three separate periods in 2025, officials were able to trace and seize approximately $560,000 believed to be intended for Hamas’ military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades.

Investigation Yields Broader Intelligence

Beyond the financial seizure, federal investigators say they also gained access to identifying information for thousands of individuals who had attempted to donate to Hamas-linked platforms. Officials confirmed this data will support ongoing counterterrorism efforts moving forward.

A senior national security official at the Justice Department emphasized that these seizures directly limit Hamas’ ability to recruit, radicalize supporters online, and fund future attacks, adding that similar enforcement actions targeting the group’s digital infrastructure and financial networks will continue.
