Ukrainian Drone Strikes on Russian Warehouses
Since July, Ukraine has hit dozens of big warehouses run by Ozon and its rival Wildberries, aiming to disrupt Russia’s economy and war effort. Russia has carried out similar attacks on Ukrainian commercial sites, and both sides have stepped up the air war in recent months while front lines on the ground have barely moved. Ukraine made no comment on this strike.
Ozon Response and Financial Impact
Regional head Murat Kempilov said firefighters were sent to deal with the blaze and that debris from enemy drones damaged two nearby villages, with no casualties reported. Ozon said all staff were evacuated, and it is not aware of any injuries. The company will cancel orders it cannot fulfil from other facilities and has paused seller deliveries to the centre for now. Last week, Ozon warned it expected to lose 30.1 billion roubles, about $367 million, from drone attacks across 11 sites. Its shares were down 0.4% at 3,781 roubles on the Moscow exchange.
Peace Talks and Recent Escalation
The strike comes ahead of US-mediated peace talks in Abu Dhabi on November 10 and 11. On Tuesday, Russia bombed Ukrainian energy infrastructure in several waves, and Ukraine hit an oil refinery in Yaroslavl on Monday night.
