Senator Elizabeth Warren said Tuesday she wants Congress to pass crypto legislation, but not in its current form, calling the Clarity Act Washington’s first real shot at meaningful regulation while insisting it falls short.
What Warren Wants Changed
Warren told reporters any bill must set clear rules on public officials’ crypto holdings, protect national security, safeguard consumers, and strengthen efforts against illicit finance. She pointed to concerns about President Trump’s crypto wealth, tied to World Liberty Financial and his TRUMP memecoin, arguing ethics rules must go further than what Republicans have proposed.
A Possible Path Forward
If Democrats retake the Senate in November, Warren could lead the Banking Committee. She said she’d be willing to negotiate with both parties and industry to build a workable bill, though she noted that would require Republicans standing up to Trump, calling that a tall order.
