X is reportedly in discussions about using stablecoins, such as Circle’s USDC, to pay royalties to influential users for their content, according to a person familiar with the matter. This individual also works with other social media platforms currently testing stablecoins as a method for compensating influencers.

Fits Musk’s Broader Crypto Strategy

The move aligns with how other Musk-owned companies already operate. SpaceX currently uses stablecoins to collect cross-border payments through Starlink, its satellite internet service used widely across emerging markets. Stablecoins overall now represent a market worth more than $300 billion, increasingly used for fast, low-cost international payments by businesses of all sizes.

Crypto Talent Already Joining X

In March, Musk brought on crypto industry veteran Benji Taylor as head of design at X, a role also tied to xAI and SpaceX. Taylor previously led design at Coinbase’s Base blockchain network and has a background in crypto wallets and decentralized finance.

Creator Payment System Already Changing

X recently announced it is phasing out its longstanding Revenue Sharing program in favor of a new initiative called the Original Content Rewards Program, aimed at rewarding creators for original reporting, commentary, and creative work.
