The Ethereum Foundation has announced key progress on its upcoming network upgrade, “Glamsterdam,” alongside a reshuffle in its protocol leadership team. The upgrade is now expected to go live in the third quarter of 2026, after originally being targeted for June.

A major milestone includes a new post upgrade gas limit floor of 200 million, a significant increase from the current level of around 60 million. This change is designed to expand Ethereum’s transaction capacity and improve overall network throughput as usage continues to grow.

Network Architecture Updates and ePBS Finalized

The upgrade focuses on improving how Ethereum processes transactions and manages blockchain data, with the goal of enhancing block creation and validation efficiency. Developers have also stabilized enshrined Proposer Builder Separation (ePBS), a mechanism that separates block construction from validation duties to improve efficiency and reduce reliance on external systems.

In addition, EIP-8037 has been finalized to adjust pricing for onchain data storage, aiming to prevent excessive blockchain state growth under higher activity levels.
