Wang joined the Ethereum Foundation’s research team in 2017 and became known for her work on sharding research, consensus systems and the development of the Beacon Chain, a key component of Ethereum’s transition to proof-of-stake.

Organizational Restructuring Continues

Her departure follows a series of high-profile exits from the organization. Former co-executive director Tomasz Stańczak stepped down earlier this year, while Protocol cluster leaders Barnabé Monnot and Tim Beiko also left their roles. Alex Stokes, another senior protocol leader, recently began a sabbatical, and long-time contributor Josh Stark resigned in March.

Focus Shifts to Core Ethereum Principles

The Ethereum Foundation recently introduced a mandate centered on censorship resistance, open-source development, privacy and security. The move sparked debate within the community, with some critics arguing it placed less emphasis on Ethereum’s competitive position.

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin praised Wang’s decade of contributions, describing her leadership during a challenging period as both skillful and impactful. The foundation is expected to continue restructuring, with future teams focusing on protocol development, scalability, usability and institutional outreach.
