Glamsterdam, the next big Ethereum network upgrade, started running on the Sepolia testnet Tuesday at 1:53 pm UTC, community contributor Pooja Ranjan said in a post on X.

The launch is one of the last major dress rehearsals before the change reaches the main network. Once it is done, developers will choose a date for the Hoodi testnet and then lock in a final mainnet schedule. Coming after Fusaka, the upgrade is seen as one of the most important of 2026. According to the Ethereum Foundation, it is meant to improve scalability, strengthen layer-1 and make the network easier to use, including gas pricing that tracks the true cost of running transactions.
How ePBS and Block-Level Access Lists Work
Two changes lead the package. EIP-7732, known as enshrined proposer builder separation, builds a divide between the people who propose blocks and those who build them directly into the consensus rules. It also keeps consensus checks apart from execution checks, so validators get extra time to verify execution payloads. EIP-7928 adds block-level access lists, which log every account and storage slot a block touches plus the state changes after each transaction. With that record, clients can load data from disk, validate transactions and calculate state roots at the same time. Ethereum today processes transactions one after another in a single lane, so parallel handling could lift throughput and allow larger blocks without pushing the gas limit higher.

Gas Limit Floor and the Road to Hegotá
The Ethereum Foundation said in May that Glamsterdam would carry a gas limit floor of 200 million, up from about 60 million now. After mainnet activation, attention turns to Hegotá, the following major upgrade. Developers started sifting through 66 proposals for it in August, and a number of them would add privacy tools to the protocol itself.
