Ethereum Sets Oct 6 for Glamsterdam Upgrade on Sepolia Testnet

Ethereum developers have scheduled the network’s next major upgrade, Glamsterdam, to go live on the Sepolia testnet on Oct. 6, though a mainnet date has not been set.
What Glamsterdam Changes on Ethereum
The Ethereum Foundation said Sepolia node operators must update both their execution layer and consensus-layer clients before activation. One key change is enshrined proposer builder separation, which moves the handoff between block builders and validators directly into Ethereum’s protocol, reducing reliance on outside middleware. The upgrade also introduces block level access lists that record the accounts and storage locations used during each block.
Gas Pricing Changes Ahead
Glamsterdam will adjust gas pricing to better reflect the real cost of creating and accessing data on Ethereum. The foundation warned that contracts relying on fixed gas stipends or hardcoded gas limits may need updates to work properly after the change.

Next Steps for Ethereum’s Roadmap
Developers have not yet scheduled Glamsterdam’s rollout on the validator focused Hoodi testnet or on Ethereum’s mainnet. Attention is already turning to Hegotá, the upgrade expected to follow Glamsterdam, targeted for 2027. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said Sunday that Hegotá could be the network’s last “normal” fork before development moves toward recursive STARKs, automated formal verification, optimized consensus and quantum safe cryptography.
