Grayscale Opens In Kind Subscriptions to 10 Crypto Investment Products

Grayscale has widened in kind subscriptions to 10 of its digital asset products, letting eligible investors hand over tokens directly in exchange for shares instead of selling them for cash first. The list covers its Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF, its Ethereum Staking Mini ETF, and funds or trusts tied to Avalanche, Chainlink, Dogecoin, Hyperliquid, Solana, Sui, XRP and Zcash. Minimum investments run from roughly $80,300 to $364,800 depending on the product. Grayscale says the option can ease the burden of self custody, may cut transaction costs, and opens the door to brokerage and retirement accounts, collateral use and other portfolio tools.

Why Institutional Custody Matters for Crypto Investors

Steve Vanourny, Grayscale’s Head of Index, said investors are looking for safer and more efficient ways to manage their holdings as the market matures. He pointed to growing cybersecurity threats, including self-custody and DeFi exploits, as a reason institutional custody is becoming more valuable. In his view, in-kind investing links direct crypto ownership with traditional portfolio management and gives access to professionally managed products.

SEC Approval Behind In-Kind Crypto ETFs

The US Securities and Exchange Commission approved in-kind creations and redemptions for crypto exchange traded products in July 2025, but that approval applied to authorized participants. Grayscale is now giving eligible investors a way to contribute tokens themselves, subject to product specific terms and intermediary requirements.
