Crypto Tax-Free Allowance in Greece

Under the proposal, investors would not pay anything on crypto gains of up to 500 euros (about $560) in a year. Only profits above that threshold would be hit by the new levy, which keeps very small traders out of the tax net.

Size of the Greek Crypto Market Remains Unclear

Working out how big the market really is turns out to be hard, since most Greek investors trade on platforms based outside the country. Officials have not yet given any estimate of how much revenue the tax could bring in.

A 10% rate would sit at the lower end of what European Union members charge. Germany, France and Italy are either applying or planning capital gains rates above 25%, which leaves Greece far below those larger economies.

Global Shift Toward Taxing Crypto Like Traditional Assets

The move fits a wider trend. Governments are shaping their crypto tax rules to look more like the way stocks and other traditional investments are treated, a sign that digital assets now play a bigger part in mainstream portfolios.
