Funeral Ceremonies Across Iran
The schedule includes additional memorial events in the religious city of Qom on July 7. The extended mourning period is notable because Islamic tradition generally calls for burial within 24 hours of death, although exceptions are permitted during wartime and extraordinary circumstances.
Leadership Transition After Khamenei’s Death
Khamenei led Iran for 36 years and played a central role in shaping the country’s regional influence and foreign policy. Following the airstrike that destroyed his Tehran compound, his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, assumed the position of Supreme Leader.
Iran-US Peace Deal Developments
The funeral announcement comes as diplomatic efforts continue between Iran and the United States. Officials from Pakistan have stated that both sides have agreed on a framework for a potential peace deal after months of conflict, with an initial agreement reportedly expected in the coming days.
