A cargo ship came under fire close to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, leaving several crew members dead in what officials describe as the first such fatalities since the conflict began. Rescuers responding to the scene were also killed.

Separately, American forces disabled a cargo ship’s steering near the Gulf of Oman after it allegedly ignored warnings tied to a naval blockade on Iranian ports.

Strait of Hormuz Remains Shut

A senior Iranian security figure said the Strait of Hormuz, a route once carrying a fifth of global oil and gas supplies, will stay closed until Washington meets Tehran’s demands, including unfreezing assets and ending regional conflicts.
