JPMorgan CEO Says Banks Will Continue Opposing CLARITY Crypto Bill

JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon has said the banking industry will continue resisting the current version of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (CLARITY), a proposed U.S. crypto market structure bill that could reshape how digital asset firms operate.

Speaking in a recent interview, Dimon argued that the bill gives crypto companies advantages that traditional banks do not receive. He claimed the legislation would effectively allow crypto firms to offer interest or yield on customer deposits and stablecoin balances without following the same rules imposed on banks.

According to Dimon, crypto companies are not facing equivalent Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements, sanctions compliance under the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), or capital reserve obligations that banks must maintain.

Dimon also criticized the growing influence of crypto companies in Washington, specifically mentioning Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong during discussions around the bill. He said banks would continue fighting the legislation unless regulatory standards become more balanced.

CLARITY Bill Still Faces Political Challenges

Although the Senate Banking Committee advanced the bill in May, it still requires approval from Congress and President Donald Trump before becoming law. Market expectations for passage have recently weakened as bipartisan support remains limited.
