The London Stock Exchange is reportedly partnering with Payward, the parent company of crypto exchange Kraken, to launch tokenized versions of major UK stocks. According to a Tuesday report, the tokens will debut on LSE 24, the exchange’s upcoming night time trading venue offering round-the-clock trading five days a week, with a planned rollout in 2027.
Part of a Wider TradFi Shift Toward Tokenization
The move adds the London Stock Exchange to a growing list of major exchanges exploring blockchain-based trading with fractional ownership and extended hours. Nasdaq recently agreed to acquire trading platform LeveL Markets as part of a similar push, while the Intercontinental Exchange invested in crypto exchange OKX to bring tokenized NYSE stocks to market. Deutsche Börse also put $200 million into Payward earlier this year to expand its tokenized securities offerings.
Data from RWA.xyz shows tokenized stocks grew 15% in value over the past month to $2.53 billion, while the number of holders jumped 153% to 2.45 million.
