Malaysia’s Central Bank Launches Blockchain Platform for Tokenized Bonds
Malaysia's central bank has launched a distributed ledger based platform for issuing and holding tokenized bonds. Malaysia’s central bank has launched a distributed ledger based platform for issuing and holding tokenized bonds. Called the next-generation Scripless Securities Depository System, or SSDS+, it supports the issuance, depository and safekeeping of tokenized debt securities, including Islamic bonds known as sukuk. The platform links digital securities records with a payment system built to run around the clock.

How SSDS+ Connects to RENTAS+ for Settlement
The system tracks ownership and transfers of tokenized securities and connects to the RENTAS+ network, which handles the matching bond payments in central bank money. Although it was designed for wholesale issuance, the bank says it is also ready to support tokenized government bonds and corporate retail bonds. The announcement did not name any securities already issued or share transaction volumes.
Part of Malaysia’s Asset Tokenization Roadmap
The launch follows the bank’s three year tokenization roadmap, unveiled in November 2025, which outlined pilots in Islamic finance, supply chain financing and programmable payments. In February, the central bank tested ringgit stablecoins and tokenized bank deposits through its Digital Asset Innovation Hub, with participation from Standard Chartered, CIMB Group Holding, Maybank and Capital A.
