MetaMask Exits Ethereum Validators After a Security Incident
MetaMask said it is dealing with a security incident that hit part of its infrastructure and is pulling affected staking validators out as a precaution. In a Wednesday update, the company said it is handling the threat internally with outside partners and security advisors. It did not say what the issue was, but it has found no immediate threat to MetaMask wallets. The steps apply to validators in its non-custodial staking operations.

MetaMask Staking and Lido Validator Exit Timeline
Lido said MetaMask Staking began precautionary steps to protect client assets tied to its Ethereum validators, including exiting its ETH validators in the Lido protocol on Wednesday. The last affected validators should finish exiting by the end of Oct. 7.
How Long ETH Will Take to Return
Lido developer Will Shannon said exited ETH will return to the protocol gradually as validators finish the exit, withdrawal and re-entry cycle. Because of the long entry queue, this could take up to 45 days.
MetaMask Staking, offered through MetaMask Portfolio, includes pooled staking, validator staking and liquid staking through Lido and Rocket Pool.
