Monad Proposes Wallet Upgrade to Protect Against Lost Keys and Quantum Threats

Ethereum compatible blockchain Monad has proposed a major upgrade to how crypto wallets handle security, allowing users to replace lost or outdated keys without changing their wallet address. Currently, losing access to a key can permanently lock users out of their funds, while upgrading security often requires creating an entirely new wallet and transferring assets.

Currently, losing access to a key can permanently lock users out of their funds, while upgrading security often requires creating an entirely new wallet and transferring assets.

Built With Future Threats in Mind

The proposal aims to support features like passkeys, social recovery options, and post quantum cryptography, addressing growing concerns that future quantum computers could eventually break the digital signatures used to secure crypto wallets. Under this system, users could add, replace, or retire the credentials controlling their account while keeping the same address, including setting up recovery methods through trusted contacts.

Early Stage Proposal With Strong Ecosystem Backing

The idea remains in its early draft phase, with a detailed technical specification still to come. Monad, which has grown to nearly $939 million in total value locked across its decentralized finance ecosystem, saw its MON token rise modestly following the announcement. Existing accounts would continue functioning normally if the proposal is eventually implemented
